Welcome to year 2

Term 4 - Fire! Fire!

Click on the image on the left to see the curriculum overview where you can find out what your child will be learning in each  term.  Below we have shared some ideas for home learning linked to our learning in term 4, as well as ideas to support maths, reading and writing at home.

Click on the image below for the Term 4 Home Learning Challenges. We love seeing what your child has been learning at home so please encourage them to bring their home learning in to school to share with their class.

 Reading in Year 2

At the start of Year 2, most children continue with Read, Write Inc lessons to develop their reading skills. Once they have completed the programme they will continue with daily reading lessons to develop comprehension, fluency, retrieval and inference skills.

Spelling in Year 2

Weekly spellings will be uploaded here as well as on Class Dojo. These spellings will also be assigned to your child's Spelling Shed account for them to practice at  home.  We do not do a weekly spelling test, but instead will do a spelling assessment at the end of each term.

Below is a list of common exception words that most year 2 children are expected to be able to read and spell by the end of year 2. We have added a link to help you support your child to learn to read and spell these words at home.

Please click on the images below for the year 1 and year 2 common expcetion word lists.

Click on the thumbnail image to our guide for supporting your child's Literacy development in year 2 - there is also a useful glossary of terminology linked to the Year 2 Curriculum for Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar (SPaG).

ERIC

ERIC  (Every Child Reading In Class), will take place every Tuesday at  8:40-8:55am, when you are invited to come into class with your child to read with them. One adult per child please.

Mathematics in Year 2

To support  your child's mathematical learning  help them learn their number bonds that make 10, 20 and 100.(For example,  2+ 8 = 10, 10 = 6+4, 14+6 = 20, 20 - 3 = 15, 30 + 70 = 100, and so on).  Also help them to learn the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables.

We use White Rose Maths in school to support maths learning.  The free White Rose 1 Minute Maths app is a great resource to support maths                                       learning at home.
